Eposic RPG Tunnels & TrollsTM Character Generator

All Rights Reserved. Tunnels and Trolls (TM) is a trademark of
Flying Buffalo, Inc. You may use the Eposic RPG Tunnels & Trolls Character Generator for your personal use only. You may print generated PCs and NPCs for your personal use only. You may freely exchange any settings that you use in the generator with other users of this generator.

Instructions:

The generator will not function properly if you click the
Generate button before the program loads in its entirety. Please be patient while the program loads; depending on the speed of your modem, it may take several seconds.

Once the program has loaded, enter a Name for the character to be generated, or leave the Name field blank if you don't want a name assigned to the character. Select the Type, Kindred, Level, and Sex of the character being generated, or set any of these to
Random to have the program randomly select them. All NPCs generated with this generator will have a negative CHR unless you check the Pos. CHR checkbox, in which case the generated NPC will have a positive CHR.

While this program was created mainly for the purpose of generating NPCs, you can use it to generate PCs, too. If you want to generate a PC character, check the PC checkbox. This will automatically check the Pos. CHR checkbox and set the Level to 1, and you will not be allowed to change these as long as the PC checkbox is checked. Moreover, PCs are only allowed to be of one of the following standard PC kindreds: Dwarf, Elf, Fairy, Hobbit, Human, or Leprecaun. Finally, equipment and spells are not generated for a PC. You will have to purchase such things with the gold that is generated for the character.

All NPCs generated by this tool will have personalized stats, not Monster Ratings. The tool will also generate equipment, languages, spells, and special abilities for the NPC. Certain Kindreds have restrictions that this program tries to adhere to; if you try to generate an NPC that goes against one of these restrictions, a pop-up window will appear to inform you.

Once you generate an NPC that you like, you can print it from your browser. Make sure you click in this frame before you print; this should cause only the NPC information to be printed. (Your mileage may vary; it works in the browsers we tested it in.)

You can also email your character to yourself and one other person (such as a GM, if you're a player generating a PC with this generator). To email the character, enter your email address in the text field labeled "Enter your email address", and optionally enter the email address of another person in the text field labeled "Who else gets a copy?". Then click the "Send It!" button. The generated character will be sent to the two email addresses listed, along with the seed that was used to produce the character, so that the GM (or other addressee) can verify that the generated character was actually generated by this tool. For further info on how to generate the same character given a specific set of inputs, see below.

Important Note concerning emailing characters: To make sure you email your character with the correct settings, DO NOT change any of the settings for your generated character before you click the "Send It!" button! Changing the settings after you generate a character but before you email the character will cause improper settings to be sent in the email, and your character cannot be verified by its recipients.

Checking the Seed checkbox tells the program to use the seed that is currently in the Seed text field. This might be the seed that was just used, or it might be one of your own devising. It could also be the seed used for a character that someone else emailed to you, and you want to use the seed mentioned in the email to verify that the character emailed to you was actually generated by this tool. To use a particular seed, simply type it in the Seed text field, and check the Seed checkbox. If you do not check the checkbox, the program will generate a seed randomly, replacing any value that is already present in the Seed text field.

Unless you change the value in the Seed text field, the program always displays the seed that it used most recently. You can write down this seed or store it in a file and use it to generate the same character again at a later time. As mentioned above, you can also email the character, including the seed, to yourself or someone else, who can use the seed and other settings information to verify the generation of your character. To re-generate or verify a particular character, you must enter the same seed that was used to generate that character the first time, and you must check the Seed checkbox. In addition, you
must set the Type, Kindred, Level, and Sex to the exact same settings to which they were originally set for the character. (For instance, if you set something to Random before, it must be set to Random if you are trying to again generate the same character that was generated before.) If the character is a PC, you must be sure to check the PC checkbox. If the character has a positive CHR, you must be sure to check the Pos. CHR checkbox. (Only the Name field is allowed to be different when re-generating a character. During the re-generation, you can, if you wish, enter a name in the Name field, or you can leave it blank, or you can set it to something else entirely.) Once you set the settings and enter the seed to exactly match what you used to generate the character the first time, then you can click the Generate button to cause the character to be generated again.

Feedback?

This generator may encounter a few problems, due to the sheer number of Kindreds supported in the tool. There are bound to be a few odd situations that got past our testing, or that we just simply didn't want to devote the time to fixing. For instance, while Ghosts are intended to have ST, DEX, and WT ratings that are all 0, all other characters should have a non-zero value for each attribute. Yet it is statistically possible for this generator to generate other characters that have attributes that are 0.

Moreover, since there isn't exactly a list of standard T&T magic items, or a standard T&T description of special abilities for various kindreds, we came up with our own list of magic items and special abilities for kindreds. There are a few other liberties that we took where we felt the rules didn't really spell everything out. And since just about anything can be explained as being caused by some magical effect that occurred sometime in the character's past (excepting first-level PCs, of course), we figured that we could give characters, especially higher level ones, a few special items and abilities that they might not ordinarily have according to the official T&T rules. You may disagree with some of the decisions we made, but, hey, you're free to disregard anything we did that you don't like.

If something strange or disagreeable occurs while you are using the tool, you will probably be safe in ignoring that character and clicking on the
Generate button again to generate another one. If, however, you consistently see what appear to be errors, we would appreciate an e-mail letting us know what problem(s) you're seeing. (The link to email us is in the left margin of the left frame.)

We hope you enjoy this tool, and would love to hear from you if you find it useful in your T&T campaigns.

Happy Generating!!
